Younger sons born into nobility or the gentry were often sent to serve at the Royal Court as pages of honor. Part of their education was learning tournament jousting. The master-at-arms used wooden horses mounted on swings to teach skills with sword and lance.

This wooden horse popularized as a decorative home furnishing during the Victorian era, evolved into the classic rocking horse. No upper class children's playroom was without one.

Our Victorian Era Rocking Horse is a full-sized reproduction of originals dating back to the 19th century, hand carved in top quality mahogany. Hand made saddle and tack of real bridle leather. Hand finished in a warm and glowing French-style varnish, slightly distressed to make it look somewhat aged.

All details, carving, dimensions, construction, even the composition of the various wood parts are exactly after the specifications of original British playroom horses from the end of the 19th century.  Museum collection Swing irons in nickel plated steel and all other hardware is solid brass.

Comes with bridle leather gear, tack, reins and sling. Hand made miniaturized Western or English style saddle and all other leather gear. Hand-blown glass eyes. Mane and tail are made of real horse hair. Brass stirrups.
